What to tell your patients.
Here are a few ways to bring this up…
“So you’re aware, I have an application running on this computer which assists me with writing notes. Everything we discuss is confidential, and it won’t affect this appointment.”
“Instead of me frantically typing while you and I go over what you came to discuss, I’m going to have a virtual scribe running in the background which types for me.”
“In case you didn’t know, there’s this amazing new technology that assists doctors like me with the massive amounts of charting we have to do on patients. You’ve probably heard of it, it’s called Apollo Health MD. It’s phenomenal. Anyway, I’m going to have it running in the background so that I can pay full attention to you instead of worrying about writing things down while we chat. You cool with that? Great, let’s get to the matter at hand…”
Some questions you might get from patients…
I don’t trust artificial intelligence. Won’t it spread my information to everyone?
No, you don’t need to worry about that. Only I have access to the information that you share with me. The system I’m using has safeguards in place, they’re actually required by law to have these safeguards. So they ensure that all of us doctors play by the rules. You’re info is safe, and anything you share with me remains confidential.
